At Oaklands Medical Practice, we have implemented a cloud-based electronic health record for each patient. This means that every patient has all of his/her medical details stored securely on a web server, thus doing away with cumbersome paper notes.
The major advantage is that information about you and your health is readily and easily accessible within a few clicks on a computer, which also reduces repetition, the risk of errors, and maximises your actual consultation time. Your health becomes easier to monitor in time, allowing us to respond effectively to your changing health needs, e.g. adjusting your medication as your health parameters change. Simple examples of this could be your blood pressure or cholesterol level.
If you happen to ring for medical queries, there is no delay in responding to you as we can access your entire health record without the need for you to offer any background information, provided you have registered with us previously.
A new health record can be created within a few minutes, including your previous medical history, the medications you take, your previous investigations (including laboratory and radiology reports), and demographic data such as your contact details or those of your next of kin. We are even able to record your health insurance details, if you have one, to facilitate your claims. Referrals, letters, health reports, and prescriptions can all be made electronically, and printed or emailed to you retrospectively.
This system follows the trend of the most advanced healthcare systems in the world. Even in the United Kingdom, only a handful of hospitals have fully computerised electronic health records. This is one example where we hope to provide you with a modern health alternative, with world-class systems, knowhow, and personal care.
The software we are currently using is OpenEMR, which allows for easy customisation and upgrade as it evolves, but is also certified as secure. The amount of information we hold for you is entirely of your own choosing, and you can request this to be changed or amended as you desire. We aim to treat you, as well as your health record, with the utmost sensitivity and confidentiality, according the the Good Medical Practice guidelines of the General Medical Council (UK).
